Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we hold it, who ever sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Written for people, not for lawyers.
Who this applies to
This policy covers namuadvisory.com and the information Namu Advisory holds about visitors to the site, people who contact us, and clients. Work delivered under a signed engagement letter is also governed by that letter, and by the confidentiality obligations of the credentialed professionals doing the work.
What we collect
From visitors: pages viewed, approximate location from your IP address, and the device and browser you used. From people who contact us: name, email, phone, and whatever you choose to tell us about your situation. From clients: the records the work requires — identification numbers, income and expense records, bank and card activity, payroll data, prior returns, entity documents, and the documents you upload to the portal.
Where it comes from
Most of it comes from you. Some arrives from your prior accountant during a handover, from bank and payroll feeds you connect, from taxing authorities in the course of a matter, and from platforms we operate on your behalf.
How we use it
To do the work you engaged us for, to meet filing and record-keeping obligations, to communicate with you, and to run and improve the practice. We do not use client information to build marketing profiles, and we do not sell personal information to anyone.
Tax return information is treated separately
Federal law (Internal Revenue Code section 7216) restricts how a tax return preparer may use or disclose tax return information. We do not use or disclose your tax return information for any purpose other than preparing and filing your returns unless you give us written consent first, or the law requires it. Any consent request will be specific about what is being disclosed and to whom.
Who else ever sees it
Almost nobody. Your information is confidential and we treat it that way. It reaches three places only. The software we run the work on — the client portal, tax preparation, payroll and accounting platforms — each under contract, each assessed before adoption, and none of them permitted to use your data for their own purposes. Taxing authorities, when we file on your behalf or represent you. And anyone the law compels, such as a valid subpoena or court order, in which case we will tell you unless we are prohibited from doing so.
Anything else requires your consent first. We share client information with partners, vendors, and other professionals — an attorney, a plan administrator, a valuation consultant, an investment advisor — only when you have told us to. We never sell client data, we never trade it, and we do not disclose that you are a client without your permission.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to understand which pages are read and how quickly they load. Neither sets cookies or identifies individual visitors; they record page views, referring sites, device and browser type, approximate country and page-load timing in aggregate. None of this touches the client portal or anything you send us as a client. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How long we keep it
Engagement records are generally retained for seven years after the last filing they relate to, which is what professional standards and the applicable statutes of limitation contemplate. Some records are kept longer where a matter, a law, or a legal hold requires it. Inquiries that do not become engagements are kept for a shorter period and then deleted.
How it is protected
Documents travel through an encrypted client portal rather than by email attachment, client data is encrypted in transit, multi-factor authentication is required on every system that supports it, access is limited to what a person needs to do their work, and devices are managed, encrypted and monitored. Our security page describes the full set of controls, and we will answer a security questionnaire from your IT or compliance team.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete what we are not required to keep. Depending on where you live — including New Jersey and Colorado, where we have offices — you may have additional statutory rights, including the right to appeal a refusal. Email us and we will respond within the time the applicable law allows, and within thirty days in any event. We will not treat you differently for exercising a right.
Children
This site and our services are directed to adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Information about dependents may appear in a family tax return; it is handled as part of that engagement, under the instruction of the parent or guardian who engaged us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and, where the change is material, tell clients directly rather than relying on you to check.
Contacting us about privacy
Write to us through the contact page or ask your day-to-day contact. Requests about your data go to a person, not a form queue.
